Recent NewsLocal Oak Ridger starts new home
inspection biz A new home inspection business is opening in Oak Ridge. Local native David Crowe has opened Safety 1st Home Inspection LLC, a new business centered on helping home buyers and sellers understand the condition of the homes they are dealing with. “I’ve always been interested in homes,” Crowe said. Crowe said he sets his business apart from competitors in that he is willing to provide thorough explanations regarding the condition of a home without using frightening words and technical jargon. “I like to give down to earth explanations about the condition of homes,” Crowe said. Crowe added, while many home inspectors charge for a second visit, he is willing to return to homes that need a second examination free of charge. He also offers home maintenance tips upon inspections, which are also free of charge. Crowe, who was born and raised in Oak Ridge, is an Oak Ridge High School alumnus. Following enlistment in the U.S. Navy, Crowe attended college in Augusta, Ga., where he studied environmental engineering. Home inspections focus on identifying any severe defects or serious safety problems that might affect the value of the home. Crowe stated inspections typically consist of checking the main components of a home; including roof, foundation, plumbing, etc., and lasts around two to four hours. This, though, can change depending on the condition of the home, according to Crowe. He also stated he inspects crawl spaces as well. His main concerns he is looking for are issues where the safety of the home is in question. So far Crowe stated he has had a positive response from the community and is looking for his business to continue moving forward. “The response has been growing,” he said.
